Reflections on UNWIHW 2025

It is easy to move quickly to the next thing,
the persistent grasping of new stories and images.
Let’s hold a few things gently, with gratitude,
before we move on from UNWIHW 25.

Gifts from the Board and CIC members

Jewish, Baha’i, Buddhist, Unitarian, Sikh, Muslim, Hindu and Christian traditions.
You made it happen with your commitment to interfaith harmony.

  • From the CBC, MC for the Spoken Word and Choral concert. Thank you, Jenny Howe.
  • From the City, The Atrium at City Hall for our Opening Ceremony. Thank you Councillor Evan Spencer.
  • From the Alberta Government and Canadian Heritage, funding!

Gifts from Strangers

  • Eric LeCompte, Jubilee USA, broadened  our perspective on the effects of debt on developing countries and the opportunity for remediation with Jubilee 2025.
  • Ndunje Sefu, a visiting Congolese pastor, the gift of song, drumming and laughter.
  • Eviella Sefu, “Whispers of a Broken Land,” a poem from Ndunje’s daughter, regarding the current violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Gifts from Neighbours

  • Everyone who hosted, provided space, shared food, wrangled balloons.
  • Everyone who sang, drummed, shared heart stories, listened and asked questions.
  • Everyone who facilitated and participated in conversations about holy texts, reconciliation, racism, interfaith marriage and teaching world religions in Higher Education
  • Everyone who supported our communication tech needs – finding equipment, taking pictures and posting on social media.
  • Everyone who led prayers and said prayers.
  • Everyone who said hello to someone they had never met before!

And now what next ?

Does this feel important?
Does it seem like a good thing,
in our current world,
to support a space which welcomes difference and celebrates diversity,
which honours kindness and values respect?

Become a member of CIC. Help sustain and grow this space!
